Phil's trip to Japan

Phil left Oregon to escape the drab, dreary weather and do a run-off on a machine that he purchased. So, he gets to Tokyo and it is their monsoon season, so therefore, hot, drab and rainy. What can I say...that's the way the weather goes.
This is downtown Tokyo from the state building, 52 stories up. Yep, pretty drab.
See, he did go for work. Well at least he has a hard hat on.
This little guy was at the Mitsui Seiki Company festival. Guess he misses Caleb.
On a day off, they went to a shrine where they do a ceremony of the hand washing.
While there, there was a Japanese wedding in traditional attire.
The procession going into the shrine...love that umbrella over the bride/groom.
This was an old ship building facility. It is now an amphitheater out of it and the surrounding area.
The escort from the company, Howard, decided that they should go up this huge Ferris wheel...approximately 400 feet tall. Not to Phil's liking.
The view from the top shared space with this roller coaster.

Phil & Mark are in front of famous shrine in Tokyo.

Outside of the shrine was a Buddha...if you rubbed any part of his body, that's what you were praying to heal on your body. So, Phil wanted to get more smarts...or maybe more hair???
A pagoda near the Shrine.
This is the altar in the Shrine. Very ornate.
An incense pot is where you rubbed smoke from it on your body before entering the Shrine.
One of the men has a granddaughter who wanted a Pokemon stuffed character. So they went to Pokemon Center in Tokyo.
This was taken at the half way mark up Mt. Fuji.
This goose was at a cold water spa...a flightless goose at that. Hope you enjoyed Phil's mini show from Japan.

Berry Pie

Last Thursday, I went to Wool Gathering at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe. We used to be Woolly Wednesdays, but will now meet once a month on Thursdays. Debbie Busby of Wooden Spool Designs is our wool expert and it was so fun to be back with all of these ladies once again. This month we were down in the shoppe making "pies" from wool...cherry, blueberry or marionberry.
Here Debbie is sharing her technique on how to make our "crust" from the light wool.
Near the end of class, this gal was gathering her pie to finish at home.
Here Debbie and I share our "pies" with you. Can't you just smell them? Mine is purple - reminding me of blueberries. As you can see in the background, there is lots of wool that Debbie has dyed specifically for the shoppe and many projects that she has created. Am looking forward to making the one that looks like postage stamps...just right of Debbie's shoulder. Had a great time again, ladies, and thanks Debbie for another fun morning at Wool Gathering.

A day at the Beach

Yesterday (July 23) Phil and I took a day off and went to the Coast, Seaside being our destination. A look at the weather deemed it to be partly sunny at the Coast so it was our chance to get some major Vitamin D in our system.
On the way to the Coast we stopped by a blueberry farm and picked up a box of blueberries. Oh so good.....This gnarly old tree reminded me of a Berenstain Bear book called the "Spooky Old Tree".
When we got to beach....ta da!!! The sun was shining out in the ocean as far as the eye could see. And the clouds that were above us...well they weren't rain clouds. Phil was welcoming the sun!!
And me....well, I just had to go play in the water. Yes, it was a bit nippy, but oh so fun.
Besides...I have to get good at running and playing in the surf so that when Caleb comes out to visit, I will be ready to do some splashing with him.
A big heart of "P L + T L left in the sand for people to know we were there.
We did try and find some clam shows but to no avail. You can clam on the beaches of Oregon all the time, which is why it is probably over dug.
In the center of the "Prom" (short for the 1 1/2 mile promenade walk) there is a statue commemorating the Lewis and Clark end of the trail at the Pacific Ocean Coast.
There are all kinds of interesting things on the beach. This is a palette that someone left and is now covered in mussels.
This is some sort of seaweed root with a big pod on the end.
We had a great lunch at a nearby restaurant and then went to the other end of the beach. Here were some sea gulls sunning themselves. If you look closely, between the two right gulls is a pineapple that someone put out there.
The sunny beach has wonderful sand but there are rocks at the end to keep the surf from coming up and eroding the soil.
Just a beautiful setting right around 5 pm, the sun sets will be beautiful tonight.
Phil is just enjoying the beach, sun and a wonderful day. Thanks, handsome, for a special day at the beach.

June with Caleb

When I was in Michigan at the end of May until the 23rd of June, I did get to spend quite a bit of time with Caleb. When I wasn't moving items around and pricing Family Sale items, I was with Caleb.
When I got to Nick and Julie's house, Nick was at school, Julie was moping the floor and Caleb was in his Baby Einstein munching on Puffs - or what was left of them. This is the great big smile that I received when I first saw him. Warms a Mimi's heart.
The last time I was in MI in April, Caleb was cutting teeth, wobble walking, and just being a little boy. Now, he is a toddler who is still cutting teeth but also running and jabbering like crazy. So, he had to come outside and see what kind of car Mimi drove up in. He inspected it all the way around and liked what he saw. I should have had him inspect the tires closer though...I ended up with two nails in the left rear tire and ended up with a new one by the end of the following week.
He likes trying on shoes and tried to walk in mine. A little help from Mimi and he did OK.
Caleb is a very busy little guy. He picks up his toys and puts them in the waste basket. The he dumps it out and starts over again.
Photo op with Mom and Dad...still "Number 1" son and grandson!!He came over to Great Gram's farm and helped us with the Family sale. We got him his own car so he could drive around. No pedals and a little young for it, but by the end of June, he had the hang of it.
Caleb is quite the helper. Momma asked him to water the flowers. So he dragged the watering can over to the side of the garage...
...realized that the flowers were a little further down the sidewalk....
...and helped water the petunias. Thank you Caleb. That was a big help.
A few days we left in the afternoon while Daddy was at school and Momma was sleeping. We went to Creative Quilts in Brighton and Caleb made sure the chairs were put under the table.
The next afternoon, we picked up my friend Miss JR and went to Holt to Everlasting Stitches. That place was quite crowded so he had to stay in the stroller as there was just too much to touch. At a shop in Pinckney and one in Howell he did wander around and helped me fine fabric.
With all the stuff he does, he does occasionally take a time out by himself...sitting under the table...
...0r maybe this table.....
...or how about the new chair Mimi got me? All will do. (Note: Daddy said he had to take the chair away during the day while momma slept because Caleb has learned to climb. Yep, he is growing good!!)
Caleb, Nick and Julie were doing a yoga pose...Downward Facing Dog...well, Nick and Julie were beginning to do it and Caleb decided he would let them look funny for Mimi.
Then he posed too and had to make sure Daddy was doing it correctly. What a cutie.
While at the farm, he got heavy when I was holding him and I needed to get a few things done. So we put him in the shopping cart so he could be safe.
It was OK while we were rolling around, but then he wanted out...he wanted to move on his own.
He figured out that these doors didn't have locks on them...he could open them and close them to his heart's content. Kept him happy for quite a while.
Then he would run into the living room where we were sitting. Lots of room at the farm to roam.
One of the days it was in the 90's. Way too hot for all of us. So, we got the galvanized tub out and filled it with 5 gallons of water. Caleb stripped and we let him play in the tub. It wasn't quite as warm as bath water but it did cool him off nicely...and me too as he got me wet.
He didn't like the grass, but he did try and put some of it in the water when he was skinny dipping.
Caleb loves his swing. Nothing deters a smile from him while he is in it. Even the neighbor kids who were rolling around the street in their little cars.

Caleb and I play blocks alot when I am there. He is getting much better at putting them in their right shaped hole.
Keep trying, Caleb!!
See....I can do it! Thanks, Mimi for helping me.
Caleb learned that the pillow isn't too heavy and he carries it around the living room.
Then he is tired and it is time for bed. Nighty night!!! More on next blog. See you soon.
